To Write a Rap — Part I

To Write a Rap — Part I Nicole Chufi Jan 13, 2015·4 min read

“There are a thousand ways to express yourself… You can’t rewind moments, but you can fast-forward inspiration.” And started like this, one night without sleep, and things in my head I couldn’t get rid. Something was clearly wrong but I tried to make it right — maybe not the conventional right. I’ve decided to write a rap with crocs on my feet. By the way, that’ s how I got my first verse, and clearly kept me going….

Such a mental break, first piece I ever make, no good reason to continue but to express myself — more nights without sleep included, notes near my bed, hours in the shower, lack of focus in long conversations and a headphone stuck in my head. To write a rap wasn’t any easy, waves of creativity are kinda limited and just happens when you less expect — and when you are unprepared to write things down — plus, some time was also needed, thousand of versions were written and the story started to get a shape — a real soul, a body and hopefully a beat and a voice will come next (part II). Picky with the raps I’m use d to listen to, now I became a big fan of artists that are actually able to transform their tragedy/drama, make criticism, share their feelings and still make rhymes out of it (Oh Eminem, please wait for me, cuz we were meant to be!). So I’m MC Lil’Chufi (according to the rap generator name) and this is my…ICE BREAKER! [Intro] There are a thousand ways to express yourself… You can’t rewind moments, but you can fast-forward inspiration What the heck? So I decided to write a rap, with a pack on my back, crocs on my feet and new era on my head (Spoken) [verse 1] Started like this, one night without sleep, and things in my head I couldn’t get rid. Mind-blowing fall, I knew we can never have it all hey — hey hey. Hey! Let’s break the ice so listen, so listen to my advice, in this life, everything has a price so you better roll this dice, (b) twice. Once downslope, I was ready to compose. Blurred lines. Oh! This time I fell so close…slow motion, moment froze. (B. Break). Take it easy! Gravity defies as I get dizzy, On the floor, smashed slashes, no eyelashes from my big round glasses. Came across me a smart guy, average shy, no tank top or black tie, works fired in the blacked out sky I hesitate to stand up and say goodbye. No choice left but to walk away without shame, no one to blame, I knew that was lame, 10 secs would last a snapchat of that frame. Player, that was so not a game! (Break) [Hook] The sun’s risin’ in the east Heart turn on the heat On repeat, [b] livin’ the beat, while you sleep, For such a hit, to spit these rhymes with You must stop at every pit [Verse 2] Razzle-Dazzle. 3 wiggles and a giggle, peace got stolen and route was unbound, 404 nowhere to be found. Can I say it out loud? Where is the connection, (…)was this some kind of distraction? Midnight toll, fo’sure that ground was mined, Rather than a wagon, pumpkin turned into a pie. Yeah fella, we ain’t cinderella, Blows my mind playin’ on the loop that acapella whispering things that were not meant to …buzz, (b. Break) expecting less about this mess, cuz, shouldn’t even bother, if I’d trust my guts I’d know this was out of order. Wrap your weakness around your body won’t be any sin, it might get better with a bottle of gin, Deja vú, One glimpse of two, out of the blue, not caring about… who said it was true. Face drown in this infinite ocean, devotion for waving motion. [Hook] The sun’s risin’ in the east heart turn on the heat On repeat, [b] livin’ the beat, while you sleep, For such a hit, to spit these rhymes with You must stop at every pit (2x) [Closing — fade] So let’s get low and rock’n’roll… No control in the wide open space, heartbeat lost the pace.(breath) (F***! No luck, this emotion got stuck…) With the pack on my back, crocs on my feet and a new era on my head. [Hook]
